Kitchen Space Planning
Consultant: Michael Chen, Organization Specialist
The kitchen is the most complex, high-traffic, and expensive room in a home to renovate. A poor layout doesn't just look bad—it causes daily frustration, makes cooking exhausting, and represents a serious safety hazard if hot items are carried across traffic corridors.
In our Kitchen Space Optimization Planning service, we analyze your current space or architectural blueprints and design three distinct layout configurations. All designs strictly comply with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) guidelines, optimizing the kitchen work triangle (sink, refrigerator, range) and guaranteeing safe door clearances, island aisles, and prep countertops.
NKBA Guidelines We Implement
Triangle Leg & Walkway Clearances
We ensure that no single leg of the work triangle is shorter than 4 feet or longer than 9 feet. We plan work aisles to be at least 42 inches wide for a single cook, and 48 inches wide for multi-cook households, ensuring cabinet and appliance doors open safely.
Countertop Prep & Landing Zones
We design vital landing spaces near appliances: at least 15 inches of counter space next to the refrigerator, 15 inches next to the oven, and 36 inches of continuous countertop immediately adjacent to the sink for food preparation.
Storage & Cabinetry Schedules
We organize storage into zones (Consumables, Non-Consumables, Cleaning, Preparation, Cooking) to minimize cooking steps, ensuring that utensils, spices, pots, and garbage bins are placed exactly where they are used.
